Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) programs play an important role in preparing the next generation of critical health care professionals. As we celebrate National Medical Laboratory Professionals week (April 22-26), we salute everyone in and preparing for careers in the field. These highly trained professionals are vital to sustaining the nation’s high level of health care. They are the ones who perform and evaluate laboratory tests to diagnose, monitor treatment, and help prevent disease. In the process, medical lab technicians and their colleagues likely help save and extend countless lives every day.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), there are currently about 330,000 active medical lab professionals across the country; however, that number is expected to grow by 43,000 or so over the next eight years. That means an average of 5,000+ new technicians and technologists will be needed each year just to keep pace with demand – which is why medical laboratory technician is spotlighted in the Top 40 Best Jobs of 2013 by U.S. News & World Report. And, the profession likely will continue to grow as health care technology advances, routine medical care is made available to more Americans, and our senior population expands.
Fortis Colleges & Institutes invite you to join them in honoring these professionals, as well as the students and graduates who will be joining their ranks, by recognizing the significant contributions they make to our good health.
