The Fortis History

We've come a long way, but we're just getting started.

Fortis is a post-secondary network of colleges and institutes that engages students in a powerful learning and training experience for lifelong growth. Now with 30 campuses nationally, Fortis Colleges & Institutes offer a range of career-based certificate, diploma and degree-granting programs that meet the needs of the local employers and communities. Fortis College and Fortis Institute campuses prepare students for careers in healthcare, nursing, medical, dental, massage, cosmetology, and the skilled trades including HVAC-R, welding, electrical and more. 

HISTORY OF FORTIS:

2008

September – Fortis College in Salt Lake City was opened in Utah.
December – Fortis College campus in Norfolk became the next school to wear the Fortis name, with the opening of the new facility in Norfolk, VA. The campus was formerly known as Virginia Career Institute in Virginia Beach.

2009

January - Fortis adds new campus locations in Alabama, in Dothan, Mobile and Montgomery. These campuses were formerly known as Capps College.
February- Fortis continues to expand by adding our Richmond, VA campus, formerly known as Virginia Career Institute and our campus in Pensacola, FL, formerly a Capps College campus.
November/December- We celebrated the grand opening of our brand new Fortis College campus in Indianapolis, IN, and Fortis continued our growth in Florida with the addition of Fortis College in Orange Park, FL (formerly known as North Florida Institute) and Fortis moved into the DC metro area with Fortis College in Landover, MD (the former Medix School South campus).

2010

April- The Fortis brand expands across the states of Pennsylvania and Ohio with the additions of Fortis Institute Forty Fort campus and Fortis Institute, Scranton. Both were formerly known as AMTI.
In Ohio, Fortis acquired campuses in Columbus and Cincinnati (former Bohecker College locations), Cuyahoga Falls, (formerly National Institute of Technology NIT) and Centerville (formerly RETS College in the Dayton, OH market.)
November - Fortis Institute opens a brand new facility in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.
December – Formerly known as Berdan Institute, the Fortis Institute, Wayne, NJ campus proudly becomes the second Fortis campus in New Jersey.

2011

June/July-A brand new Fortis College campus open in Cutler Bay, FL in the Miami suburbs to serve south Florida.
Two additional Fortis campus locations were added in Texas. Fortis College in Houston South, and Fortis Institute in Houston North area were former MedVance Institute campuses. The former MedVance Institutes in Nashville and Cookeville were rebranded as Fortis Institute campuses.
September– In the Baltimore, Maryland market, Fortis Institute – Towson was added, formerly known as Medix School Towson.
November – The Fortis name expands into the state of Louisiana with the addition of the Fortis College campus in Baton Rouge, LA, (formerly MedVance Institute.)

2013

May- Expanding further into Florida, Fortis adds another campus in Port St. Lucie, previously known as MedVance Institute.
