HealthcareApril 03, 2013

While there is always the possibility of an emergency situation requiring extra hours, most of those who are in the field will work about 40 hours per week with a regular schedule. Most of the time, they are going to be working during the normal clinic hours to make sure that everything is up and running properly. However, the hours can vary based on the location. Hospitals that are open around the clock may need to have health information technology staff on hand 24hrs a day. This means that you could work the night shift in some cases. The Training in Health Information Technology In order to work in the field, you must have a quality education.  The scope of the education that you receive is an amalgam of traditional IT (information technology) and basic healthcare terminology and IT practices. For example, you may have to learn certain medical terms and even coding terms. You will also need to have topnotch computer skills. The American Health Information Management Association offers certification, and this is something for which many employers are going to look. Those who love computers and want to work in the healthcare field can find quite a bit to love about this career. Good communication skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to stick with a problem until you solve it are some other attributes that you will want to possess.
