While there is always the possibility of an emergency situation requiring extra hours, most of those who are in the field will work about 40 hours per week with a regular schedule. Most of the time, they are going to be working during the normal clinic hours to make sure that everything is up and running properly. However, the hours can vary based on the location. Hospitals that are open around the clock may need to have health information technology staff on hand 24hrs a day. This means that you could work the night shift in some cases. The Training in Health Information Technology In order to work in the field, you must have a quality education.  The scope of the education that you receive is an amalgam of traditional IT (information technology) and basic healthcare terminology and IT practices.
