Healthcare, Medical, & Skilled Trades

If your goal is to start a new career or advance enhance the one you already have, FORTIS offers both HVAC and medical programs in Foley, Alabama. Our medical assistant program can help prepare you for an entry-level career in a variety of healthcare settings. Alternatively, our HVAC program is an option for those who are seeking entry-level employment in the skilled trades working in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration field.

Medical Assisting:

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) job opportunities for medical assistants will grow much faster than the average for all occupations nationally over the next decade. Medical assistants provide hands-on patient care under the direction of doctors and nurses, perform basic lab work, and medical offices run smoothly.

HVAC:

Another career area that is experiencing job opportunity growth is in HVAC. According to the BLS, however, employers are increasingly seeking entry-level technicians who have graduated from a formal training program. This is because environmental systems have become more complex and there is a need to use computer-based diagnostic tools when working with them. Students in the FORTIS HVAC program receive both hands-on and classroom training in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems.

Continuing Education:

If you are already working in the healthcare field but want to expand your skill set, consider our continuing education program in phlebotomy. Students receive both classroom and clinical training in collecting and handling blood samples. After completing the course, students may be prepared to register for the International Academy of Phlebotomy Sciences, Inc. certification exam, “Certified Phlebotomy Technician, CPT. “

I wanted to get into HVAC because my field needed that as a prerequisite for better pay, better responsibility, better positions. What I enjoy most is the troubleshooting and the traveling and that I am not sitting in front of a desk all day.

The hands on learning was great as well. Each module transitioned smoothly into the next. I don't think I could have had a better learning experience anywhere else.

I gave in my graduation speech that FEAR stands for face everything and rise and even at 30 and two kids and being out of school for almost ten years I was still able to go back and I didn’t feel that I had lost that much time, I was able to get back into the groove of it and if you put your mind to something you can achieve it no matter what obstacles stand in front of you.
