Reasons For Choosing an HVAC Career

Skilled TradesJune 08, 2018

Why become an HVAC technician? Because it’s always nice to be needed. Not only could you be on-the-job in a highly stable career amid a fluctuating economy but, because HVAC jobs aren’t being outsourced, you could also become the next super-hero to the family dealing with heating or cooling issues. And that’s a cool feeling.

If you like taking things apart, thigh hen putting them back together…enjoy variety instead of experiencing the same thing day-in and day-out…or relish the idea of consistent work – cooling in summers; heating during winters – then you may be exactly what’s needed by the HVAC industry.

HVAC careers are all about problem-solving – analyzing systems and figuring out what’s wrong…then fixing them. You’ll be using your brain along with your hands…and you won’t be confined to an office. Every service call is different, taking you outside, into crawl spaces, attics and basements, as well as a variety of office and rooms. As we said, there’s plenty of variety to the job.

Because virtually every building has a cooling and heating system, you should always have a job. And not only a job, but one that pays well. As more and more job applicants seek to land cushier professions in business, computers, etc., the demand for skilled, qualified HVAC professionals is likely to rise. And, increased income potential usually follows high-demand, meaning the HVAC profession should continue to be fertile ground for years to come.

Better still, you don’t need a four-year degree to begin work. In two years…or less…you can be ready to hit the ground running in an HVAC career. Plus the employment outlook for HVAC professionals is projected to rise by 14% through 2024, which is faster than a lot of other professions, meaning employment should remain strong.

Fortis offers HVAC programs at more than two dozen campuses from New Jersey to Utah that include training in computerized diagnostics, so students will be able to service and repair today's complex systems for commercial refrigeration, gas heat, heat pumps, and air conditioning.
