Should You Become a Practical Nurse?

The process to entering into the nursing profession is complex and multifaceted - there are many specialties, multiple degrees and different types of licenses you can pursue. With so many options, it may be difficult to decide which one would fit your skills and ambitions the best. At Fortis, we want to help explain to you why becoming a Practical Nurse (PN) might be the right choice.

Quick Entry into the Field

Perhaps the greatest benefit of becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is the relatively short educational path to earning your license and working as a nurse compared to other options. Including general education courses, a student can complete a Fortis PN program in approximately two years or less of full-time study. Upon graduation, you will be prepared to take the NCLEX-PN exam and earn your license.

Flexible Work Hours

Medical facilities operate on a 24-hour basis and work is broken down by shifts, therefore nurses have options and flexibility in selecting work hours that fit your schedule. For example, choosing nights allow you to have a career and still be at home with your family during the day.

Wide Range of Employment Options

As a PN, you can work in a wide variety of places.  LPNs are in demand anywhere you can expect medical care to be provided. From a hospital or nursing home to a home-care facility or hospice, your training is applicable inmany different settings within your state. Or if you want to move, the employment opportunities for entry-level PNs across the country will be strong for years to come.

Fulfilling Career

There is a sense of personal satisfaction that comes with helping others and your community that is unmatched by many other careers. Working as a nurse is a well of passion and inspiration that never runs dry.
