Tri-State Institute, a leading post-secondary healthcare and professional trades education institution in Birmingham, Ala., has changed its name to Fortis Institute.

The school and its ownership remain the same and, as part of the collaborative Fortis network of colleges and institutes, the Birmingham campus will continue to embrace the same core values for which it is known. But now, it also will be able to draw upon additional resources and have access to higher level educational program offerings and technology.

“The word ‘Fortis’ is derived from Greek roots and literally means strength and power. Our transition into Fortis Institute, Birmingham demonstrates our commitment to providing students in the greater Birmingham area one of the most career-focused learning environments available today,” said campus President Carolyn Pritchett.

According to Pritchett, the name may have changed, but the strong relationship that exists between her campus and students and the community at large will continue…and likely will grow through the expanded resources, enhanced expertise and strength in numbers the affiliation with other campuses brings. Tri-State Institute has been an integral part of the greater Birmingham area since 2008.

“We still will be Birmingham’s campus, but now will have more to share and give back to students, businesses and extern partners as Fortis Institute. We believe the best just got even better,” Pritchett added.
