Fortis College Nursing Student Elected To Utah Student Nurses Association Board

FORTIS COLLEGE NURSING STUDENT SUZANNE CAMP WAS RECENTLY ELECTED TO THE BOARD OF THE UTAH STUDENT NURSES ASSOCIATION (USNA). Tuesday, November 22, 2011 3:57 PM

Fortis College Nursing student Suzanne Camp was recently elected to the Board of the Utah Student Nurses Association (USNA). She is a member of the first nursing class at Fortis, a leading post-secondary education institution in Salt Lake City.

Camp’s primary role as the Breakthrough to Nursing Board Member is to travel throughout the state to speak to high school students about the benefits of a career in nursing. She will also visit college nursing students and encourage support for the USNA, which she feels plays a vital role in their lives. Camp will remain on the Board until her graduation in February 2012.

“Nursing is no longer limited to clinical care but offers diverse and unique career opportunities in management and reimbursement,” explained Camp. “USNA is a pivotal player in the continuity of these opportunities.”

Camp was also recently elected Vice President of the Fortis Nursing Student Association (FNSA), the only official National Student Nurses Association chapter in Utah.

“Suzanne’s maturity and previous health-related experience is a positive, “explained Dr. Glenda Christiaens, Fortis College Director of Nursing. “She has clear, well-defined goals, a strong focus and a tremendous excitement about the field which will be easily transmittable as she travels throughout the state.”

Established in March 2009, Fortis College is one of Salt Lake City’s newest “pioneers” but has established itself as one of the area’s leading career training providers. Derived from Greek roots, “Fortis” literally means strength and power, signifying the powerful learning environment and resources the campus provides as a member of Fortis’ 30-campus network of affiliated schools in 11 states.

The campus’ nursing simulation lab features two procedure rooms with an interactive iStan patient mannequin, along with observation and debriefing areas. Two dedicated computer labs, an HVACR lab and medical assistant and dental assistant labs provide practical hands-on experience in real-life settings. Later this year, the campus will launch a fully functioning dental hygiene clinic open to the public and supervised by a doctor of dental surgery.
