HOUSTON – (July 5, 2011) – MedVance Institute, a leading post-secondary education institution, has changed the name of its two Houston campuses to Fortis. The Houston South campus has become Fortis College, while Houston North is now Fortis Institute.

The campuses and their ownership remain the same; however, as part of the collaborative Fortis network of colleges and institutes, they will continue to embrace the same core values for which they are known. But now, the two campuses also will be able to draw upon additional resources and have access to higher level educational program offerings and technology.

“The word ‘Fortis’ is derived from Greek roots and literally means strength and power. Our move to the Fortis brand demonstrates our commitment to providing students throughout the Houston area with the most powerful learning environment available today,” said Regional Vice President Glen Tharp.

According to Tharp, the names may have changed, but the strong relationship that exists between the two campuses and students and the community at large will continue…and will likely grow through expanded resources, enhanced expertise and the strength in numbers the affiliation with other campuses brings. MedVance has been an integral part of the community for seven years at Houston South and three and a half years at the North campus.

“We will still be Houston South’s campus and the North campus will continue to serve its surrounding community, but now we both will have more to share and give back to students, businesses and extern partners. We believe the best just got even better,” Fortis College, Houston South President Sidney Carey explained.
