Fortis Institute Jacksonville is on the cutting edge for Father’s Day. In celebration of this national holiday and to honor the men who serve in the US Armed forces, students and faculty at the post-secondary institution will offer complimentary haircuts for military dads on Friday June 17 from 11:00 am-1:00 pm at the Fortis campus, 5995-2 University Blvd.

“The choice to open this event to the military was a natural one for our campus,” explained Executive Director Karen Scolforo. “Many of our instructors have a military background and the local military presence has had significant economic impact on our community. This event is our way of giving back to the community while supporting those who protect us and our country.”

Servicemen can either make an appointment by calling 904-443-6300 and asking for the salon or utilize the campus walk-in service. Haircuts will be provided by the students under direct supervision of licensed barbers and cosmetologists.

Tyrone Jackson, a former Fortis barber instructor who recently retired and his two sons, Askia and Kashif, jointly own Legendary Cuts in Arlington and will be part of the barber staff. These “barbers of Jacksonville” volunteered for the event because of their strong Fortis ties as well as their military connection.

“I served in Vietnam so I appreciate Fortis’ desire to give back to the community,” explained Jackson. “It is also particularly gratifying as a proud father of two sons to provide this service together in honor of Fathers Day.”
