The Fortis Institute in Palm Springs, Fla., Surgical Technology program is proud to announce it has been awarded the annual Certificate of Merit by the National Board of Surgical Technologists and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
The program was honored for achieving a 100% graduate pass rate on the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) examination, compared to the latest national average graduate pass rate of approximately 56%. From Aug. 1, 2012, through July 31, 2013, every Fortis Institute- Palm Springs surgical technology graduate taking the CST exam passed.
“This is exciting news and a wonderful achievement,” said Campus President Fabian Fernandez. “To maintain a perfect pass rate and 100% graduate participation for a full year is a testament to the excellent leadership of our Surgical Technology Program Director Noel Martinez and her entire staff, as well as our students. Well done, all!”
Graduates obtaining national certification as a CST demonstrate, by examination, their understanding of all basic competencies for safe patient care in the operating room. The CST is widely recognized in the health care community as the nation’s foremost credential for surgical technologists. The CST is required for employment by many local, state and national health care organizations.
The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting has a 40-year history in CST examination development. The CST examination is the nation’s only exam that is fully accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) to meet stringent standards of examination development and administration for surgical technologists.
