Do You Want a Career a Cut Above the Rest?
Are you creative and do you enjoy the idea of cutting hair? If so and you’re looking for a career with independence, flexibility and the opportunity for personal growth, then the Barber Styling program at Fortis can prepare you to become a professional Barber.
Barbering is both a business and an art. Good barbers possess technical skills and artistic flair in combination with people skills and the capability to please customers. Learn the ropes of the trade to build repeat and referral customers by practicing time-tested, business management techniques in the barber shop.
As a barbering student at FORTIS, you will develop a variety of skills. Study and practice techniques in a wide range of services including haircutting, creative hair styling, coloring, skin care, shaving, facial treatments, and more. Throughout the course, students perform in a supervised Student Barbering Clinic and participate in actual barbering services with clients from the general public.
As a barber you can pursue opportunities to work at a men’s salon or you may consider opening your own establishment. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics about 44% of barbers are self-employed and job prospects are good nationally because employment is projected to rise 12% by 2018. This means those who want to specialize in cutting men’s hair should find opportunities upon graduation.
