Demand for Cyber Security is Growing

America's Next Big Career

Over the past few years, the occurrences of cyber-attacks have steadily increased. Because cyber security is important to everyone, demand continues to rise for a new crop of #CyberWarriors, trained specialists who are able to combat web-based threats. Cyber security specialists are the people who work to protect data and the systems connected to the Internet. And, it’s not just marshaling online counter-attacks once hackers break a computer network’s firewalls, it’s developing and perfecting safeguards that will help protect them from being breached in the first place.

What does a Cyber Security Analyst Do?

Cyber security analysts plan and implement a variety of safety measures designed to protect an organization’s computer networks and systems. Their responsibilities, and what they do to deter cyber criminals, is continually expanding as the number of cyber threats rise. Demand for well-trained security analysts is expected to remain high as more and more businesses and government agencies turn to these #CyberWarriors to come up with innovative solutions to keep hackers from creating online havoc and/or stealing important information. In fact, The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics expects the nation will need to add nearly 22,000 new cyber security analysts over the next eight years just to keep pace with new and emerging threats. Careers in the information security field are forecast to grow by 37 percent through 2022 – much faster than the average for all U.S. occupations. While many of these new analysts will be recruited by government offices and agencies, plenty of opportunities also should exist within private companies and even not-for-profit organizations. No company or cause is safe; it’s the price we pay for living in a digital age. And, it’s why #CyberWarriors are integral members of nearly everyone’s security team.
